London (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday departed from London for New York to lead Pakistan’s delegation at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The premier is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with other ministers and senior officials. He will address the UNGA session and participate in several high-level meetings during his visit.
According to the Foreign Office, Prime Minister Shehbaz will also join a meeting of select Muslim leaders with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the UNGA, where discussions will focus on issues of regional and international peace and security.
In his address to the UNGA, the prime minister is expected to highlight the plight of the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and Palestine, urging the international community to uphold their right to self-determination. He will also call attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and press for decisive global action to end the suffering of Palestinians.

The FO said the prime minister will further present Pakistan’s perspective on key global issues, including climate change, terrorism, Islamophobia, and sustainable development. He is also scheduled to attend important side events, such as meetings of the UN Security Council, the Global Development Initiative (GDI), and a high-level climate action gathering.

On the sidelines, Prime Minister Shehbaz will hold bilateral meetings with world leaders and senior UN officials to discuss matters of mutual concern. He will underscore Pakistan’s commitment to the UN Charter, conflict prevention, peace promotion, and global prosperity in Pakistan’s capacity as a member of the Security Council.
The statement added that Pakistan’s active participation in the UNGA reflects its strong commitment to multilateralism, peace, and development, while showcasing its longstanding contribution to advancing shared global objectives.
