Islamabad (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday expressed deep grief over the death of former US President Jimmy Carter.
The prime minister, in a social media post on X, extended deep condolences to Carter’s family and the American people.
“Saddened to learn of the passing away of ex-US President Jimmy Carter. He will long be remembered for his statesmanship and humility as well as his advocacy for international peace and contribution to humanitarian causes,” the premier said.
Jimmy Carter, who served as the 39th president of the USA from 1977 to 1981, died on Sunday at his home in Plains, Georgia.
He was 100, the longest-lived president in the history of the United States, the Carter Center announced in a statement.
Carter, a Democrat, became president in January 1977 after defeating Republican opponent President Gerald Ford in the 1976 election.

His presidency was marked by the highs of the 1978 Camp David Accords between Israel and Egypt, bringing some stability to the region of Middle East.
But it was also dogged by a financial crisis, persistent unpopularity and the Iran hostage crisis that consumed his last 444 days in presidency.
