Islamabad (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Tuesday said that the government will continue to implement policies that enhance the quality of life of “our senior citizens”.
In a message on International Day of Older People, he said that the government would ensure their access to healthcare, social services and their active participation in community life.
“As we observe the International Day of Older People today, I extend my heartfelt greetings to our senior citizens and acknowledge their immense and invaluable contributions to our society.”
Senior citizens are the custodians of “our history, the bearers of wisdom and the anchors of our families”, he added.

The theme chosen for this year Day of Older People is “Ageing with Dignity: The Importance of Strengthening Care and Support Systems for Older Persons Worldwide”.
Commenting on the theme he said that it manifests the importance of “our duty towards protecting the rights and welfare of our older people”.
The Government of Pakistan stands committed to creating an inclusive society that respects and protects the rights of elder persons, he added.

“They are the true guides for our younger generation to learn from their wisdom and invaluable experiences for creating a more resilient, tolerant and compassionate society.”
He said that the vision is to empower elder members of this society so that every senior citizen feels valued, their voices are heard and they continue to share their wisdom and insight.
“Let us work together to build a tolerant society where every citizen is valued and where our senior citizens are given the care and respect they deserve.”
