Manila, 14 April 2023 (TDI): The Philippines Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Eduardo Martin R. Meñez, presented his letter of credence to Czech President, Petr Pavel, on April 4, 2023, at Prague Castle.

During their meeting, Ambassador Meez conveyed President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s greetings to President Pavel and the Czech people.

They also discussed the 50th anniversary of the Philippines’ formal establishment of diplomatic relations with the Czech Republic, as well as the contributions of both nations to peacekeeping operations and the promotion of human rights.

Ambassador Meez was the first of four ambassadors to present their credentials to President Pavel.

It was also the first time President Pavel had greeted new ambassadors at the Castle since being sworn in as the Czech Republic’s fourth President on March 9, 2023.

The event was held to underscore the warm and friendly relations between the two countries and to mark a significant milestone in their bilateral ties.

Both the Philippines and the Czech Republic are committed to promoting peace and stability around the world as well as upholding the rights of individuals and communities.

Ambassador Meñez highlighted the contribution of Filipino peacekeeping troops to Czech-led missions in Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina during the ceremony.

He expressed gratitude to the Czech government for providing valuable support to these missions and for their continued cooperation in promoting peacekeeping efforts.

In his remarks, President Pavel praised the shared values and commitment of both countries to promoting democracy, human rights, and peace.

He expressed the Czech Republic’s desire to deepen its cooperation with the Philippines in various fields, including trade, culture, education, and tourism.

Both countries have also been active in the promotion of human rights and have worked together on several initiatives to protect the rights of migrant workers and their families.
