ISLAMABAD, September 12,2024 (TDI): On Thursday, Iran’s new President Masoud Pezeshkian has that Iran and Iraq have signed 14 new corporation accords during his inaugural visit the neighboring country.
The agreements were finalized in Baghdad, with Pezeshkian and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani present for the signing.
Pezeshkian described the agreements as a significant step toward expanding bilateral cooperation and discussed “strategic and long-term plans” for deeper collaboration between the two countries.

He remarked, “If we are together, we will avoid falling into the fire.”
This visit highlights the strengthening relationship between the two Shiite-majority nations, which has intensified since the 2003 US-led invasion that ended the rule of Sunni dictator Saddam Hussein.

Pezeshkian’s focus on regional partnerships is part of his broader strategy to address Iran’s international isolation and mitigate the impact of US-led sanctions.
Iran has become a major trade partner for Iraq and exerts substantial political influence in Baghdad, where its allies hold significant power in both the parliament and the current government.
