Santo Domingo, 27 November 2021 (TDI): Peru Foreign Minister Oscar Maurtua and others Foreign Affairs Ministers met at the XXVII session of the Ibero-American Summit. It was held in the Dominican Republic.
At the summit, they get to a consensus stating “Together for a just and sustainable Ibero-America”. Also, all the participants reaffirm their commitment to end the COVID-19 pandemic and increase investment in the fields of health, education, and social protection.
Additionally, they will support sustainable infrastructure in science and technology. They also agree to promote multilateralism prevention in the Ibero-American space, for future crises.

The Foreign Minister of Peru Maurtua stressed the importance of applying the objective of the declaration in several areas of their collaboration to fulfill this purpose of just and sustainable Ibero-America.
Moreover, apart from getting to a consensus on the declaration of just and sustainable Ibero-America, other points were touched in the session.
First, they elected a new Ibero-American President, Andres Allamand Foreign minister of Chile who succeeded Rebeca Grynspan of Costa Rica. Second, they set the next place for the XI Ibero-American Conference of Ministers in 2022 in Peru. Lastly, they also set that Ecuador will exercise the Pro Tempore secretariat of the XXIX Ibero-American summit in 2023-2024.

Ibero-American Summit
The Ibero-American summit is a forum for consultation and political dialogue. The summit regroups the head of the states and governments of Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries of Europe and Latin America. It consists of 22 members states, 3 in Europe and 19 in Latin America.
2021 marks the 30th anniversary of this summit which started in 1991 in Guadalajara Mexico. Since it began, all 22 countries have always attended the summits. In their 30 years of activity, 30 cooperation programs of the summits have been implemented, in the area of education, culture, technology and science, and more.
For instance, Ibermedia was an aid to thousands of filmmakers to develop cinema. Human milk banks benefited 1.8 million newborns which was another program. These are 2 examples of some of the 30 programs made by the Ibero-American community.
To conclude, Ibero-American Summit is another alternative place where countries with a similar background in this case their languages, come together to reach a greater good.
