Ramallah, 8 May 2024 (TDI): The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has welcomed the Bahamas’ recognition of the State of Palestine.
The Commonwealth of the Bahamas has formally recognized Palestine as a sovereign and independent state.
The Palestinian Foreign Affairs Ministry considers it an important decision.
The Ministry believes that such a decision is consistent with the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
More importantly, this decision comes at a time when all Palestinians are subjected to an attempt to displace and obliterate their cause at the hands of Israel, the occupying power.
The Ministry considers the importance of this decision also comes within the framework of its contribution to embodying the independent Palestinian state on Earth with East Jerusalem as its capital.
And, this decision will ultimately contribute to achieving stability and peace in the Middle East region.
Appreciation for Caribbean Basin countries
The Palestinian Ministry vehemently appreciates the positions of all Caribbean Basin countries.
It further admires their noble endeavours to push towards achieving justice and freedom for the Palestinian people.
In this regard, it is particularly thankful for their actual support for the principle of the Two-State solution.

Starting with the recognition of two states, as all of these countries have now recognized the State of Palestine, the Palestinian Ministry is hopeful for working with them to establish diplomatic relations with it on the basis of respect and mutual recognition.
Lastly, the Ministry calls on the remaining countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to join the Caribbean countries.
By doing so, they shall rely on the popular will and international legitimacy, to do justice to the Palestinian people by support their right to independence and to enable them to live in dignity like the rest of the peoples of the earth.
