Islamabad, 23 March 2022 (TDI): Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, held a bilateral exchange with the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Iraq, Fuad Hussein, in Islamabad, Pakistan. The exchange took place on the sidelines of OIC CFM.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, welcomed the Foreign Minister of Iraq. Thereafter, he recalled the longstanding and harmonious relations between both countries.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Imran Khan remarked that these bilateral ties are deeply rooted in cultural affinities and common norms, and shared faith. However, he reaffirmed the commitment of Pakistan to further enhance this bilateral relationship.
He stated that Pakistan is supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq. In addition to that, he applauded and recognized the efforts of the Government of Iraq while countering terrorism.
In addition to that, Prime Minister Imran Khan acknowledged the efforts and resilience of the people of Iraq. Indeed, the Iraqi People overcame the threat of terrorism and showed solidarity to rebuilt their homes and country.
However, both leaders exchanged views on regional and international affairs during the conversation. But, the meeting focused on matters concerning the Muslim Ummah.
In the same vein, Prime Minister, Imran Khan, pointed out the significance of OIC and the need for collective efforts to face contemporary challenges.
Lastly, the Foreign Minister of Iraq thanked Pakistan’s Prime Minister for the warm welcome extended to him and his delegation. He also lauded the arrangements done for the OIC Summit.
OIC CFM
The 48th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of OIC is being held in Islamabad, Pakistan. Thereupon, the theme of the 48th CFM is Building Partnerships for Unity, Justice, and Development. The Summit will last for two days from March 22 to 23, 2022.
The Session will address multifarious topics as well as the activities of the OIC General Secretariat. The agenda of the 48th OIC CFM is to evaluate the implementation of the resolutions adopted on various matters in the Islamic world.
These include the issue of Palestine as well as Al-Quds Ash-Sharif, the developments in Afghanistan and their humanitarian consequences for the Afghan people, and the situation in Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Likewise, the summit also includes several African issues, including the situation in the Republic of Mali, the Sahel region. In addition to that, the list also focuses on Lake Chad, the fragility of that region, and the situation in Central Africa and the Republic of Guinea.
The Foreign Ministers will discuss the developments in Yemen, Libya, the Republic of Sudan and Somalia, Syria, and other regions as well, at the Arab level.
CFM will also deliberate upon issues relating to global terrorism and conflict resolution. The agenda will also examine the affairs of Muslim groups and communities in non-Member States.
Also, the OIC will hold the consultations of the Ad Hoc Ministerial Committee on Accountability for Human Rights Violations of the Rohingya. The Session will also cover economic, social, cultural, humanitarian, and scientific issues, including Islamophobia.
It is expected that the periodical report of the Islamophobia Observatory will be presented to the meeting for review. A session under the title; the Role of the Islamic World in Promoting Peace, Justice, and Harmony.
