Pakistan’s newly appointed Envoy calls on OIC Secretary-General

Jeddah, 20 December 2022 (TDI): Pakistan’s newly appointed Permanent Representative to OIC, Ambassador Syed Mohammad Fawad Sher called on Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha and presented credentials on Monday.

The two discussed issues related to mutual interest. Secretary-General Hissein Brahim appraised his last visit to Pakistan and extended his best wishes to Ambassador Fawad Sher and Pakistani leadership.

He furthermore appreciated Pakistan’s active role within OIC and its Chairmanship of the 48th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers.

He also assured his full cooperation with Pakistan. Ambassador Fawad Sher expressed commitment to make efforts to strengthen bonds between Pakistan and member nations.

Earlier this month, before taking the charge as Pakistan Permanent Representative, Ambassador called on Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto on 24 November 2022.

Ambassador sought guidance on further strengthening Pakistan’s position in the comity of Islamic countries from the OIC platform.

Farewell Meetings of Outgoing Permanent Representative

On Dec 17, before his departure from Jeddah, former Pakistan’s pioneering Permanent Representative, Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh paid a farewell call to Secretary General OIC.

Secretary-General in a meeting thanked and lauded Ambassador Rizwan for the successful completion of the tour of duty.

Moreover, he reiterated OIC’s principle position on the Kashmir dispute towards the full realization of the self-determination of the Kashmiri people.

The outgoing Permanent Representative Ambassador Rizwan Sheikh thanked Secretary-General for consistent support during his tour of duty and hoped that the same would be extended to his successor.

On the same day, Saudi Permanent Representative to OIC arranged a farewell lunch for outgoing Ambassador Rizwan Sheikh in Jeddah.

Jeddah-based Permanent Representatives to OIC and key members of the OIC General Secretariat participated in the reception.

They appreciated Ambassador Rizwan’s professionalism and leadership skills in steering various meetings and processes at OIC during Pakistan’s Chairmanship of the Council of Foreign Ministers.
