Islamabad (TDI): A new survey by Ipsos suggests a sharp improvement in Pakistan’s global image following its role in brokering a temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran.
According to the report, international sentiment shifted dramatically, from nearly 90% negative in late March to more than 70% positive by April 8, 2026, after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a 14-day truce.
The study, based on social listening data, shows that early reactions to Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts were largely skeptical. Around March 23, when initial contacts were made with US and Iranian officials, criticism centered on Pakistan’s domestic instability, tensions in neighboring Afghanistan, and doubts about its neutrality, particularly given perceptions of alignment with United States interests.
Negative sentiment was especially strong in countries like India and within Pakistan itself, where some questioned the government’s credibility and strategic direction.
However, the tone shifted significantly after the ceasefire announcement on April 8. Online discussions quickly turned positive, marking what the report describes as a “transformative moment” in global perception.
