Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary co-chairs the 11th session of BPC

Islamabad, 6 October 2021 (TDI): Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary, Sohail Mahmood co-chaired the 11th session of Pakistan-Iran Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) along with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, Dr. Ali Bagheri Kani.

Both officials exchanged views on spectrum of bilateral relations including political, economic, trade, connectivity, security, energy, education, and people-to-people exchanges. The evolving situation in Afghanistan and Jammu and Kashmir was also discussed.

The foreign secretary apprised Dr. Kani of Indian human rights violations in Kashmir and appreciated Iran’s support for Kashmir cause. Regarding Afghanistan, Sohail Mahmood expressed that international community must engage and provide humanitarian, economic assistance to Afghanis.

The coordination between Iran and Pakistan to restore peace and stability in Afghanistan was also emphasized. Both officials while showing commitment to foster trade and economic relations, stressed that the regular convening of Joint Economic Commission and Joint Trade Committee would be fruitful in handling existing challenges.

They also showed resolve to strengthen cooperation on multilateral fora including at the UN, OIC, ECO, and SCO. And to enhance bilateral relations, they agreed to maintain the present momentum of high-level exchanges.
