Pakistani, Iraqi PMs Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties

NEW YORK CIT, (TDI): Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia’ Al Sudani on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York today.

During their meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the strong ties between the two brotherly nations, which are underpinned by deep historical, cultural, and religious connections. He also acknowledged the excellent arrangements made by the Iraqi government for Pakistani Zaireen.

The leaders agreed to further deepen and expand their bilateral relations, recognizing the potential for mutually beneficial cooperation between their countries. They also discussed regional and international issues of shared concern.

Both leaders expressed grave concern over the ongoing violence in Gaza and the resulting humanitarian crisis. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s call for an immediate ceasefire and accountability for the violence against Gaza.

Emphasizing their alignment on international matters, the leaders committed to enhancing their collaborative efforts at both the UN and OIC platforms to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and ensure unhindered humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, UK Priem Minister Keir Starmer, Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian,  Chief Adviser of the Interim Government of Bangladesh Professor Muhammad Yunus, Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah,  Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, and European Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
