Sydney, 13 September 2022 (TDI): Pakistani boxer Asif Hazara has lifted the country’s profile by clinching the title of World Boxing League’s (WBL) Asia Pacific championship title in Sydney. The rising Pakistani boxing star defeated Shamal Ram Anuj of Fiji in the finals to bag the title.

The winner of the WBL Asia Pacific boxing championship was decided on a point basis after six rounds of the grappling fight. In the finals, Hazara from Pakistan outclassed his Fijian opponent bagging the title.

Additionally, Hazara also dedicated his remarkable victory to the flood victims in the country. Pakistan which has been calamity-hit by the recent floods was in the thoughts and prayers of the young talent.

Asif Hazara: Pakistan’s boxing talent

It is pertinent to mention that Hazara is a talented professional boxer. Hailing from Balochistan, the Pakistani boxing talent has many accomplishments under his belt. He has brought numerous laurels to the country.

In 2016, he won a silver medal for Pakistan in the 12th South Asian Games boxing event held in India. In 2017, he won a bronze medal for Pakistan in the Asian Boxing Confederation’s championship held in Uzbekistan. He also participated in the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games held in Azerbaijan the same year and won a bronze medal.

In 2018, he was at the 18th Asian Games held in Jakarta Palembang, too. Adding to this, at the Commonwealth Games held in Australia, he bagged the fifth position.

The following year, in 2019, he got a silver medal in the 13th South Asian Games held in Nepal. In 2020, he also represented Pakistan in the Asian Ocean Qualification Event held in Jordan in Oman.

Additionally, he took the World Boxing Association (WBA) South Asia Super Flyweight title in Gilgit’s first-ever professional boxing festival, featuring 20 boxers from 10 countries in July this year.

Earlier in March, he also took gold and the title of Asian Champion in the Asian Boxing Federation Flyweight Championship held in Dubai, by knocking out Indonesia’s Asyer Aluman.

Finally, Hazara has also served as the captain of Pakistan’s boxing squad.
