Konya, 13 August 2022 (TDI): Pakistani athlete, Arshad Nadeem won the gold medal during the javelin throw competition in the Islamic Solidarity Games 2022, on Friday. It is also Pakistan’s first gold medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games.

In his first attempt, Arshad Nadeem was able to throw the javelin at a speed of 79.40 meters. His best attempt came in his second throw at a distance of 88.55 meters, followed by 75.50 meters, 82.40, and 83.33 meters.
Moreover, it was the 2nd gold for Arshad Nadeem to win in six days. Earlier, on 7th August, Arshad Nadeem won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. He threw a javelin at a record speed of 90 meters and became the first Pakistani to hold the record.
Additionally, President of Pakistan Arif Alvi, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and COAS Qamar Javed Bajwa also congratulated the athlete on making the Pakistani nation proud at the Commonwealth Games.
Previously, Arshad Nadeem had finished 5th at the World Athletics Championship Oregon in July. Moreover, the Pakistani athlete also scored gold during the Imam Raza Athletics Championship held in Tehran in 2021 and the South Asian games in 2019.

Islamic Solidarity Games 2022
Islamic Solidarity games officially commenced on the 9th of August and will last till the 18th of the month in Konya, Turkiye. However, games such as cycling, swimming, volleyball, and table tennis started on August 5.
Moreover, this is the fifth edition of the games happening in Turkiye. It is organized by the Turkish Olympic Committee, in collaboration with the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation.
Further, the ongoing edition of the games was scheduled in August last year but got postponed due to COVID-19 Pandemic. Before Turkiye, the previous editions of the Islamic Solidarity Games took place in Saudi Arabia in 2005, Iran in 2010, Indonesia in 2013, and Azerbaijan in 2017.
More than 50 Muslim countries including Azerbaijan, and Pakistan have participated in the event. Additionally, around 6000 athletes are competing in 24 different games this year.
