Pakistani Ambassador Pays Courtesy Call to Cambodian Prime Minister

Phnom Penh, 22 March 2022 (TDI):  Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen received at the Peace Palace this morning the newly appointed Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Cambodia Zaheeruddin Babar Thaheem.

Eang Sophalleth, Assistant to the Cambodian Premier, told reporters after the courtesy meeting that H.E. Zaheeruddin Babar Thaheem congratulated Cambodia on its development, stressing that the Kingdom is a key partner of Pakistan.

The assistant added that the new ambassador pledged to do his best to bring the cooperation between Cambodia and Pakistan to a new level during his diplomatic mission.

Eang Sophalleth pointed out that Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed a warm welcome to H.E. Zaheeruddin Babar Thaheem’s diplomatic mission in Cambodia and encouraged him to further promote and expand the bilateral relations and cooperation, especially in the economic, trade, and investment sectors.

The Prime Minister also asked the Pakistani side to continue providing more scholarships to Cambodian students.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen continued that as the ASEAN Chair, Cambodia will boost the bloc’s economic recovery while living with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cambodia-Pakistan Relations 

The Cambodia-Pakistan relations turn 70 years in 2022. Pakistan has a mission in Cambodia however recently Foreign Ministry of Cambodia has no mission in Pakistan.  Recently Cambodian and Pakistani officials in Phnom Penh discussed the opening of the Cambodian embassy in Islamabad.

It is noted by both sides that extensive potential for the development of bilateral cooperation has not yet have been explored.

Ambassador of Pakistan Zaheeruddin Babar met Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn recently as well to discuss ways to further develop cooperation between the two countries.

Cambodia and Pakistan stand to strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation on trade, tourism, education, and defense further, as they noted that their relations had been lifted to another level.

It noted that Pakistani foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi will pay an official visit to Cambodia later this year. The visit is expected to uplift the bilateral ties of the two countries.
