Lahore, 29 September 2022 (TDI): Pakistan won the 5th T20 International of the series against England on September 28 by six runs at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

Pakistan made two changes from the 4th T20I in the team for the 5th T20I against England. Out of form, Khushdil Shah was replaced by Haider Ali, and Naseem Shah, diagnosed with Pneumonia, was replaced by the debutant Aamir Jamal.

England made four changes from the last match. Will Jacks, Olly Stone, Liam Dawson, and Reece Topley were rested, while Dawid Malan, Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, and Mark Wood replaced them.

Match Summary

England won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Pakistan team could not get a good start losing Babar Azam in the third over. Pakistan played with a low run rate and lost wickets in quick succession.

Wickets were continuously tumbling at one end while Rizwan was playing a crucial knock at the other. Only three players from Pakistan were able to reach double figures. Pakistan was all out for 145 in 19 overs.

Muhammad Rizwan scored 63 runs off 44 balls. This was Rizwan’s 4th half-century of the series, and he also became the only batsman to score more than 300 runs in a bilateral series.

Mark Wood picked up three wickets for England, and Sam Curran and David Willey picked up two.

In response, England, too, lost some quick wickets. England was three down for 31 in 5 overs. Moeen Ali came to the crease and scored a quick-fire 51 off 37 balls. He controlled the scoring rate at one end while the wickets fell at the other.

The match came down to the last over, with England requiring 15 runs in the last over. Aamir Jamal bowled the last over and bowled brilliantly. He conceded eight runs in the last over and took Pakistan to victory. Pakistan won the match by six runs.

Muhammad Rizwan was declared player of the match for his brilliant innings of 63 off 44 balls.

The next series match will be played on 30 September at the same venue.
