Pakistan welcomes UNSC resolution for Gaza ceasefire

Islamabad, 26  March 2024(TDI): Pakistan expresses its deep appreciation for the United Nations Security Council’s (UNSC) resolution adopted on March 25, which calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during the holy month of Ramazan.

This resolution marks a crucial step towards peace and stability in the region.

In a statement issued by the Foreign Office, Pakistan extends its warm welcome to the Security Council’s decision.

Emphasizing the importance of allowing the free flow of humanitarian assistance to Gaza.

Pakistan stands firm in its commitment to lifting all barriers to the provision of humanitarian aid and ensuring the protection of civilians throughout the Gaza Strip.

Consistent Condemnation

Over the past six months, Pakistan has consistently condemned Israel’s indiscriminate use of force.

Pakistan has urged for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, unimpeded humanitarian aid to Gaza’s besieged population, the return of displaced Palestinians, and accountability for Israel’s actions.

The adoption of the Security Council resolution represents a significant moment in addressing these concerns.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed the resolution and called upon the international community to ensure its earliest implementation.

With the looming threat of famine in Gaza and mounting global pressure for a truce.

Pakistan emphasizes the urgency of ending Israel’s brutal attacks and securing a lasting ceasefire.

The resolution, which received overwhelming support from the Security Council, also demands the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.

Pakistan stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people and reaffirms its continuous support for the establishment of a secure, viable, contiguous, and sovereign State of Palestine, based on the pre-June 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

Furthermore, Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch reiterated Pakistan’s call for the expeditious implementation of the Security Council resolution.

She expressed hope that this resolution will serve as the first step towards ending Israel’s aggression, ensuring a permanent ceasefire, and addressing the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Urgency of Action

Minister for Foreign Affairs Ishaq Dar also welcomed the resolution and urged urgent implementation for the much-needed respite of the Palestinian people.

Pakistan reiterates its stance on the importance of allowing the free flow of humanitarian assistance into Gaza and ensuring the protection of civilians.

However, Pakistan remains committed to working with the international community, to address the ongoing crisis in Gaza and achieve a just and lasting solution for the Palestinian people.
