Pakistan, US Explore Rail Connectivity, Investment Opportunities

Islamabad (TDI): US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker on Monday met Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi to discuss avenues for enhancing regional connectivity through Pakistan Railways, with a focus on partnership, investment, and job creation.

During the meeting, Minister Abbasi briefed Baker on Pakistan Railways’ strategic development plans being pursued under the prime minister’s vision.

He highlighted ongoing reforms, including the launch of a digitalization process, agreements with waste management companies, and improved cleanliness at railway stations.

The minister also shared details of infrastructure upgrades such as executive CIP lounges, modern waiting areas, escalators, and advanced monitoring systems at major stations.

He noted that free Wi-Fi will soon be available at 40 key railway stations across the country.

Abbasi underscored that railway partnerships would not only modernize Pakistan Railways but also attract foreign investment, create new employment opportunities, and strengthen bilateral relations.

Baker acknowledged the strategic importance of Pakistan Railways and appreciated the government’s ongoing reform efforts. She also expressed U.S. interest in expanding cooperation and exploring new opportunities in the sector.
