Islamabad, 11 October 2022 (TDI): The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, confirmed in a tweet on Monday that Pakistan will co-chair the 27th UN Climate Change Conference (COP-27).
COP 27 will be convened in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt from 6 to 18 November 2022.
Moreover, The High-Level Champions and Marrakech Partnership program for COP 27 is done in collaboration with the program of the COP 27 Presidency.
The Prime Minister of Pakistan along with the Egyptian President and Norwegian Prime Minister will chair the climate summit. COP-27 will be 2 weeks long from 7 to 18 November in Egypt.
UN Climate Change Conference
UN Climate Change Conference has been held annually since 1995. Last year, COP-26 was carried-out in Glasgow, which is subsequently followed by COP-27 this year.
The conference works under the policy and guidelines of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
All the UN members are a signatory of the UNFCCC. Therefore, all the countries will sit under one roof to form a policy and structure to cater to immediate and long-term environmental issues.
Pakistan is among those counties which suffer enormously from climate although its contribution to the unwanted cause is nearly null.

Climate change and its impact on Pakistan
The recent monsoon season has had a huge impact on Pakistan. Almost one-third of the country was drowned and depicted a spectacle of a green lake due to Super Floods.
As per the reports of UNICEF, the devastating floods affected more than 30 million people including 16 million children as well.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his UN address vocally shed light on the matter.
Moreover, Pakistan is facing the server repercussions of the aftermath of floods. These are in the form of contagious diseases, food shortages, and other dire issues.
COP-27 is an opportunity for Pakistan to put forward its case in front of the world.
