Strasbourg (TDI): Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires to the European Union, Faraz Zaidi, on Thursday underscored regional and global challenges during a meeting of the Delegation for Relations with the Countries of South Asia (DSAS) held in Strasbourg.
The meeting, attended by South Asian ambassadors, marked the first interaction with the newly elected European Parliament.
In his remarks, Zaidi highlighted South Asia’s strategic significance and its vast economic potential.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s longstanding partnership with the European Union, citing the Generalized Scheme of Preferences (GSP+) as a mutually beneficial initiative and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to bolstering ties in trade, technology, and culture.
Drawing attention to regional challenges, he voiced Pakistan’s concerns over the unresolved Kashmir dispute, emphasizing its impact on regional stability.
He called for international intervention to address human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K).
Pakistan’s Commitment to Combating Climate Change
On broader global issues, Zaidi reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to combating climate change and enhancing legal migration pathways in collaboration with the EU.
He also urged collective international action to address humanitarian and security challenges in Afghanistan, particularly terrorism emanating from Afghan territory.
Touching upon the Palestinian crisis, he lauded the European Union’s principled stance and expressed hope for continued efforts towards a just resolution in line with international law and United Nations resolutions.

He urged global actors to work towards ending the ongoing crisis and ensuring lasting peace in the region.
Zaidi concluded by reaffirming Pakistan’s readiness to collaborate with the European Union on shared priorities, emphasizing peace, prosperity, and sustainable development as core objectives.
