Darwin, 18 August 2024 (TDI): Pakistan Shaheens’ hopes of clinching the Top End T20 title were dashed on Sunday as they were defeated by Adelaide Strikers in the tournament’s semifinal by 30 runs.
Shaheens stuttered while chasing a mammoth target of 198, losing half their side for just 65 runs. However, all-rounder Mohammad Abbas Afridi smashed a quick-fire 54, before claiming three wickets with the ball, to briefly revive Pakistan’s hopes. However, as the required run rate climbed up, the Shaheens lost wickets to rash shots, eventually getting bowled out for 167.

Earlier, Strikers’ opening batter Jake Winter scored a 61-ball 104 studded with six fours and eight sixes to help Strikers post a total of 197/5. He was well supported by Harry Manenti who smashed a 32-ball 52. The pair added a 73-run fourth-wicket partnership in 7.4 overs.
For Shaheens, Abbas took three wickets while Faisal Akram chipped in with two.
The defeat ended Shaheens’ campaign in the tournament, where they had impressed with five wins from seven matches.
