Islamabad, 4 July 2021 (TDI): Pakistan helped Afghanistan by sending aid to Afghanistan to fight with Covid-19. Currently, Afghanistan is struggling with the third wave of the deadly virus, resulting in the shortage of vaccines and medical oxygen.

Pakistan’s Special Representative to Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq took to his Twitter handle to share the news about the assistance provided to Afghanistan in the form of medical facilities.

He also shared the video of a convoy of trucks being sent to Afghanistan. ”Hope and pray both our countries are free of the virus as soon as possible,” says Mohammad Sadiq.

In November 2020, Pakistan helped its neighboring country by donating an oxygen-generating plant in order to facilitate the treatment of patients in Afghanistan. In addition to this, there is also an oxygen production plant funded by the government of Pakistan at the Mohammad Ali Jinnah hospital in Kabul.

The world has been ravaged by the pandemic of the Covid-19 virus since the beginning of 2020. So much so that it has incapacitated the health care systems across the world, even those of the most developed countries.

Moreover, it has also adversely impacted the global economy. Against such a backdrop, an underdeveloped and war-torn country like Afghanistan needs all the external help it can enlist.

Pakistan-Afghanistan Bilateral Ties

Aside from sharing a contiguous border, the two regional neighbors have a history of deep-rooted ties. Pakistan has been working to assist the peace process in Afghanistan along with ensuring a safe and secure environment for the natives of the country.

The two countries share commonalities in terms of religious and linguistic affinity. Although throughout history, the two neighbors have experienced somewhat turbulence in their ties, Pakistan has always been forthcoming in offering assistance and aid.

Moreover, in these trying times because of the Covid-19 pandemic and weak administrative system, a struggling government, and an almost non-existent health care system, Pakistan has again come forward to help its needy neighbor.
