Islamabad, 15 January 2022 (TDI): The President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi highlighted the need for enhanced relations with Algeria and South Korea, emphasizing the need to develop ties in areas like trade and mutual economic cooperation.

President Alvi met with Pakistan’s Ambassador-designate to Korea, Nabeel Munir, and Algeria, Dr. Muhammad Tariq at the presidential palace. During the meeting, Ambassador Munir highlighted the importance of Pakistan’s relationship with Korea and called for further actions to increase trade between both nations and to promote economic, political, and social ties.

President Alvi asked the Ambassador to urge Korean investors to invest in a number of Pakistani industries as well as the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) set up by the Chinese under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The President highlighted that both countries could work together to promote religious tourism as Pakistan is home to many historical Buddhist temples. He welcomed the recent launch of the Samsung mobile phone manufacturing unit in Karachi.

Moreover, he also appreciated the assistance provided by the EXIM bank of South Korea to help Pakistan with the construction of the Information Technology Park in Islamabad, which amounted to $88.80 million.

In his meeting with Dr. Muhmmad Tariq, Ambassador-designate to Algeria he highlighted that Pakistan and Algeria enjoy cordial relationships based on religious and cultural values and also called to further boost bilateral ties between both countries.

He said that Pakistan has a robust IT industry and highlighted the need to develop ties within the industry between both nations. President Alvi also underscored his plan to set up a joint business council to better promote bilateral trade with Algeria.
