Moscow (TDI): Pakistan and Russia made notable progress in bolstering bilateral ties during the 9th meeting of the Russia-Pakistan Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation, held in Moscow.
Co-chaired by Pakistani Power Minister Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari and Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev, the talks yielded pivotal agreements aimed at enhancing cooperation across critical sectors.
A standout achievement of the meeting was the agreement to develop a roadmap for constructing a state-of-the-art steel mill in Karachi, a project that symbolizes the commitment to industrial growth and technology transfer.
In addition, eight Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed, covering a wide range of areas, including energy, education, healthcare, and trade.
The agreements emphasize shared priorities, such as energy security and socio-economic development, with both parties pledging to implement the IGC’s decisions effectively.
Pakistan-Russia Educational Collaboration
Educational collaborations were also spotlighted, with partnerships between institutions like COMSATS, NAVTTC, and Peshawar University marking a new era in academic exchanges between the two nations.
Another promising outcome of the talks was the discussion on launching direct flights between Moscow and Islamabad.
Russian Deputy Minister of Transport Sergey Zverev expressed optimism about initiating these routes, which are expected to significantly ease travel and foster people-to-people connections.
