New York (TDI): During the Security Council’s Open Debate on the UN Peace Operations, Pakistan and India exchanged heated remarks and statements.
While making Pakistan’s official statement, Special Assistant To the Prime Minister, Syed Tariq Fatem, observed that Jammu and Kashmir remains a disputed region and UNSC must deliver its responsibility in the light of various Resolutions adopted.
He said: ” people of Kashmir have long awaited their right to self-determination as promised under these resolutions, which mandate a UN-supervised plebiscite to determine their future.”
On his turn, India’s Ambassador P. Harish remarked in his statement that Jammu and Kashmir is India’s integral part.

To this, Pakistan’s Counsellor Gul Qaiser Sarwani took the Right to Reply and responded India in detail, saying that Jammu and Kashmir is and has always been a disputed territory, and that nothing can change this historical and political reality.
“It is a familiar ploy of all occupiers and colonizers to paint legitimate struggles for freedom and liberation as terrorism. Instead of maligning others for terrorism, India should sincerely reflect on its own campaign of orchestrating targeted assassinations, subversion and terrorism in foreign countries,” he remarked.
The Counsellor further added that India funds and finances terrorism in Pakistan through outfits such as Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and the Majeed Brigade.

In its reply, Pakistan referred to UN Resolutions and reports that have documented India’s severe violations of human rights and its unlawful targeting of Kashmiri people.
“India holds Kashmir by brute force with over 900,000 troops and paramilitary forces in the occupied territory. India has killed over 100,000 innocent Kashmiris since 1989,” the statement read.
Pakistan’s stance over Jammu and Kashmir has been guided by the unchanging principle of Self-Determination as well as the UNSC’s Resolutions that oblige India to hold plebiscite in the disputed region.
