Pakistan offers condolences for death of Shinzo Abe

Islamabad, 8 July 2022 (TDI): Prime minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif extended his sincere condolences on the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe.

The Pakistani Prime Minister tweeted shortly after the news of the former Japanese Minister’s death came out expressing his sadness over the incident.

He acknowledged the contributions made by the deceased Minister to Pakistan and Japan’s relations. He conveyed his prayers to the family and said that Pakistan stands with Japan in this difficult time.

The assassination of Shinzo Abe: 

During his address on a street in the city of Nara on Friday morning, Abe was twice fired at. The security personnel on the site subdued the shooter, and a 41yo suspect is currently in police custody.

Tetsuya Yamagami, the suspect, confessed to killing Abe with a handmade pistol and claimed he had a vendetta against a “particular organization,” according to investigators.

In a press conference on Friday, the police announced that after searching the suspect’s home, police discovered many other homemade weapons that were identical to those used in the assault and took them into custody.

About Shinzo Abe:

Shinzo Abe, the former prime minister of Japan was born on 21 September 1954 in Tokyo to a prominent political family.

He served as prime minister of Japan from 2006 to 2007 and again from 2012 to 2020.

He was the longest-serving prime minister in the history of Japan.

Abe had also served as the Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan from 2005 to 2006 under Junichiro Koizumi and was briefly the leader of the opposition in 2012.

In addition, he was the President of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).

He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science from Seikei University in 1977 and moved to the United States in 1987 to study public policy.

Shinzo was married to Akie Matsuzaki, a socialite, and former RJ. The couple had no children.

He died at the age of 67.
