Islamabad (TDI): Robert-Jan Siegert, Ambassador of Netherlands, called on Federal Minister for Human Rights Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, focusing on ways to enhance cooperation and exchange views on ongoing initiatives to promote and protect human rights in Pakistan.

Senator Tarar welcomed the ambassador and appreciated the Netherlands’ continued support for Pakistan’s human rights agenda.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing equality, inclusion, and the welfare of all citizens. The envoy acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts in implementing its human rights commitments and praised the government’s dedication to upholding constitutional guarantees, including freedom of religion and belief.

The minister briefed Ambassador Siegert on recent legislative measures, including the introduction of the National Commission for Minorities Bill, aimed at safeguarding minority rights, promoting interfaith harmony, and ensuring minority participation in national development.

He also highlighted progress under the National Action Plan on Human Rights, covering policy reforms, improved access to justice, adherence to international commitments, and the strengthening of human rights institutions.

Both officials discussed the role of independent bodies such as the National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR), the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW), and the National Commission on the Rights of Children (NCRC), along with efforts to protect vulnerable groups including women, children, senior citizens, transgender persons, and people with disabilities.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continued coordination and constructive dialogue to advance human rights in Pakistan.
