Ankara, 25 June 2022 (TDI): Pakistan Embassy in Turkiye grieved the demise of Sheikh Mahmut Effendi, one of Turkiye’s outstanding instructors and Sufis.

The death of Turkiye’s preeminent Islamic scholar and Sufi, Sheikh Mahmut Effendi, came as a huge surprise.

Also, the President of Pakistan, President Arif Alvi also sent his condolence to the people of Turkiye on the loss.

Further, the President added that the departed taught hundreds of ulama and instructors and dedicated his life to Islam.

Moreover, the sympathies of Pakistan go out to the Turkish people and their supporters throughout the world.

Besides this, he dedicated his life to the revival and service of Islam. Sheikh Mahmut Effendi educated hundreds of academics.

Sheikh Mahmut Effendi of Turkiye

Sheikh Mahmud Ustaosmanoglu, commonly known as Sheikh Mahmut Effendi, is one of Turkiye’s most well-known Islamic scholars.

Equally important, he emphasized the Sunnah and is well-known for resurrecting several Sunnah practices.

In addition to this, he was the leader of the influential İsmailağa Jamia of the Naqshbandi-Khalidiyya Ṭarīqah.

Sheikh Effendi has millions of followers and has founded several philanthropic, social, and religious organizations such as the Marifet Association, the Federation of Marifet Associations, and the Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama’ah Confederation.

Accordingly, he spent some of his time in critical care owing to renal problems, and hence, it was the cause of his death at age of 93.

Pakistan and Turkiye Religious relations

The majority of people in Turkiye and Pakistan follow the Hanafi school of Sunni Islam,  which was the interpretation of Islam applied by the Ottoman and Mughal empires, respectively.

In addition, there are strong traditions of moderate Sufism, and religious leaders from both countries communicate often.

Unity of the Islamic World

Pakistan and Turkiye inked an agreement in February 1952 and, the Turkish and Pakistani Presidents referred to it as the first step toward Islamic World unification, which is known as Baghdad Treaty.

Similarly, Pakistan and Turkiye signed an economic cooperation pact in 1954 and, after signing the Baghdad Pact (CENTO) in 1955, the two nations became closer.

In conclusion, the Pakistan-Turkiye ties relate to a bilateral relationship of trust and support for each other in hard times as well as, based on the foundation of strong friendship and brotherhood.
