Islamabad, 18 August 2022 (TDI): Sohail Mahmood, Foreign Secretary of Pakistan met Artykbaev Aibek Muhtarovich, Deputy Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan, at the Foreign Office on Wednesday.

During the meeting, the two dignitaries discussed matters of mutual interest. The Foreign Secretary emphasized that Pakistan highly values its friendly and cordial relations with the Kyrgyz Republic.

Further, the Foreign Secretary reaffirmed the country’s desire to further enhance economic, trade, and investment cooperation. He said this while noting the 30 years of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two states.

Sohail Mahmood also stressed increasing people-to-people exchanges. In this regard, he highlighted elements of “Vision Central Asia” of Pakistan focused on political, connectivity, trade and investment, defense, and people-to-people contacts.

The Foreign Secretary stressed the importance of regular high-level political engagement for maintaining the bilateral relations between the states.

Further, he hoped that the 2nd Session of Pakistan-Kyrgyz Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) would help in enhancing the existing level of cooperation. He added that it would open new avenues for mutually beneficial collaboration.

In addition, the Foreign Secretary discussed Pakistan’s perspective on the situation in Afghanistan. He said that practical cooperation between the Afghan authorities and the international community was needed for regional peace and stability.

Deputy Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Artykbaev Muhtarovich is on an official visit to Pakistan to chair the 2nd Session of the Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) between the two states.

During his visit, the Kyrgyz Deputy Foreign Minister will be engaging with other Pakistani Government officials. He will also have meetings with members of the business community.

Relations between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan

Pakistan was among the first countries who recognized Kyrgyzstan in 1991. Formally, the two states established their diplomatic relations in May 1992. Since, the states maintain strong ties in various sectors including education, trade, and investment.

Moreover, there has been frequent exchange of visits between the state officials. Also, in 2018, 1st round of Bilateral Political Consultations was held in Bishkek.

The delegations from both states committed to enhancing cooperation in culture, science & technology, education, and defense sectors.
