2nd Session of Bilateral Political Consultations between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan

Islamabad, 19 August 2022 (TDI): The Second Round of Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan was held on 17-18 August in Islamabad.

Aamar Aftab Qureshi, Additional Secretary of Afghanistan and West Asia led the Pakistan delegation. While, the delegation of the Kyrgyz Republic was led by Artykbaev Muhtarovich, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, both sides discussed bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest. The Additional Secretary underscored Pakistan’s commitment to further enhancing its ties with Kyrgyzstan.

Moreover, Pakistan’s “Vision Central Asia” Policy was also discussed. In this regard, Additional Secretary highlighted that the country was focused on improving economic security through connectivity agenda.

Further, both the parties expressed satisfaction in maintaining cordial relations and coordination at international forums including United Nations, and SCO.

In addition, the delegations exchanged views on bilateral cooperation in sectors including trade, energy, culture, education, and defense. Moreover, they agreed to consolidate the ties between the two states in all areas of mutual importance.

Apart from this, both sides assured their commitment to the completion of the CASA-1000 Power Transmission project between the Central Asian Republics and Pakistan.

Discussions on Regional Issues

Further, both delegations discussed regional and international issues particularly concerning Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and Afghanistan. The Additional Secretary also briefed about the human rights situation in IIOJK.

He added that India’s actions in August 2019 were aimed at undermining the internationally recognized status of Jammu and Kashmir and altering its demographic structure.

Moreover, the Additional Secretary said that Pakistan, the Kashmiris, and the international community condemn these actions.

Aftab Ahmed Qureshi also highlighted Pakistan’s perspective on the Afghanistan situation. He emphasized the need for the provision of humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people and practical engagement with the Interim Afghan Government.

Moreover, both the parties decided to hold the next Session of the bilateral political consultations in Bishkek.  Lastly, it was agreed to hold the 3rd meeting of the Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) at a mutually convenient date.
