Pakistan, Kazakhstan to Strengthen Economic Ties

ISLAMABAD, (TDI): In a move to deepen bilateral relations, Kazakhstan’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Alibek Bakayev, met with Pakistan’s Federal Secretary for Economic Affairs, Dr. Kazim Niaz, to discuss expanding trade and strategic cooperation.

The meeting highlighted the growing partnership between the two countries, particularly through the Pakistan-Kazakhstan Joint Intergovernmental Commission (JIC). The two sides agreed to hold the 13th JIC session in Islamabad and Karachi in January 2025.

Key discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in the transport and communication sectors. Bakayev emphasized Kazakhstan’s interest in leveraging Pakistan’s infrastructure, including its seaports and road networks.

Dr. Niaz assured full support for improving connectivity under the framework of the JIC.

To ensure smooth decision-making at the JIC session, both countries also agreed to hold preparatory meetings of Joint Working Groups on Trade & Investment, Agriculture, and ICT.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and exploring new avenues for cooperation to further solidify the strategic partnership between Pakistan and Kazakhstan.
