Islamabad, 30 July 2022 (TDI): The Ambassador of Italy in Pakistan, Andreas Ferrarese met with the Interior Minister of Pakistan, Rana Sanaullah in Islamabad on Thursday.

The Interior Minister and the Ambassador discussed various aspects of security and immigration. The Interior Minister stated that both countries’ combined goals are to prevent illegal immigration and human smuggling.
Further, he stated that human smugglers defame the country’s name and that action against them is unavoidable. Andreas Ferrarese praised Pakistan’s efforts to combat illegal immigration and human smuggling.
Likewise, he added that the end of human trafficking would be possible with better coordination between the two countries.
Bilateral Ties between Pakistan and Italy
Italy and Pakistan have long had friendly relations and cooperation in the political, economic, cultural, and social spheres. The two countries have reached a consensus on a number of global issues, and mutual cooperation in all fields is increasing.
Pakistan provides excellent investment opportunities for Italian companies. Moreover, Pakistan remains an appealing market for Italian manufacturers and businesspeople.
Pakistan’s exports to Italy increased by 22.1 percent in 2021, totaling €763.51 million. During the same time period, Italian exports to Pakistan increased by 48.6 percent, totaling €754.06 million.
The value of bilateral trade has increased from €1.42 billion in 2019 to €1.52 billion in 2021. In January-February 2022, trade volume was €289.37 million, up from €203.41 million the previous year.
More than 150,000 Pakistanis live in Italy, making it the largest Pakistani diaspora in Europe. In addition, they continue to make a significant contribution to both country’s economies.
Italy recently launched a project of the “Olive Culture Project” in Pakistan that will yield tangible benefits to the country in the future.
In addition, Italy established the Italy-Pakistan Textile Technology Center (IPTTC) at the National Textile University (NTU) in Faisalabad to upgrade the local textile sector.
Pakistan maintains an Embassy in Rome and a Consulate-General in Milan for representation, while Italy maintains an Embassy in Islamabad, a Consulate-General in Karachi, and an honorary Consulate in Lahore.
