Baghdad, 22 January 2022 (TDI): For the promotion of tourism, a memorandum of understanding abbreviated as MoU was signed between Pakistan and Iraq. This will further enhance ties between the two brotherly countries.

A statement regarding the news came out on Friday 21 January 2022. The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Tourism Coordination, Azam Jamil, took to Twitter to declare the news.

Earlier this month Azam Jamil had the honor of becoming the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) for Tourism Coordination. Azam Jamil has an illustrious career in the hospitality and tourism industry.

The aim of the memorandum of understanding is the promotion of people-to-people linkages between the two countries. The agreement was signed by the Ambassador of Pakistan to Iraq and the Iraqi Minister for culture, tourism, and antiquities.

They stated that this development is a step, that will further deepen the bilateral collaboration. It is said that this measure will also diversify the collaboration between the two countries.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Tourism Coordination, Azam Jamil, additionally met the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, earlier the same month of January. A discussion was held pertaining to the promotion and work needed for the development of the tourism industry in Pakistan.


Previously steps have been taken to boost the bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Iraq. The visits by Pakistani Foreign Minister, Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and Iraqi Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein, last year promoted and deepened the ties. The two countries remain committed to broadening their friendly relations for mutual benefit.
