Pakistan, Iran vow to defeat extremism

Islamabad (TDI): Iran and Pakistan on Wednesday agreed to work together to eliminate extremism and terrorism and promote peace in the region.

In a meeting between Iranian Ambassador Dr. Amiri Moghadam and Minister of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Chaudhry Salik Hussain here, the two sides agreed to enhance cooperation in combating extremism and promoting interfaith harmony.

During the meeting, various proposals were discussed to eliminate terrorism and sectarianism, According to Radio Pakistan.

Chaudhry Salik Hussain stressed the need for dialogue between religions and cultures to establish peace in the world.

The meeting agreed to further enhance economic, trade, and cultural relations between Pakistan and Iran.

The Iranian Ambassador invited Chaudhry Salik Hussain to participate in the forthcoming International Quran Conference to be held in Iran next month.

Pakistan Faces Terrorism

Terrorism and extremism has been harming the two countries since long with tens of thousands of causalities besides heavy economic losses.

Pakistan has been facing terrorism for over 20 years. According to a survey, until 2022, Pakistan lost 83,000 lives and incurred financial loss of more than 35 trillion in rupees.

Due to extremism it faces health issues like hurdles in polio vaccination as well as lowering school enrolment and economic challenges.
