Ambassador Moin ul Haque’s visit to Yangzhou

Yangzhou, 30 August 2023 (TDI): The Ambassador of Pakistan, Moin ul Haque paid a four-day visit to Yangzhou, Jiangsu province, China, from August 21 to 24, 2023, at the invitation of the local administration.

The Ambassador attended the important Opening Ceremony of the World Canal Cities Forum. During the event, he eloquently highlighted the crucial role that canals play in boosting trade, enriching cultures, and enhancing connections between different places.

 

At the Forum, Ambassador Haque expressed his deep admiration for the captivating scenery and abundant cultural legacy of Yangzhou. He also emphasized the historical importance of Yangzhou as a vital city along the Grand Canal.

One of the Forum’s key moments was when Ambassador Haque shed light on Pakistan’s extensive canal system along the Indus River. It irrigates a staggering 48 million acres of land, solidifying the nation’s commitment to effective water management.

Notably, he expressed Pakistan’s strong interest in becoming a part of the World Canal Cities Organization (WCCO), headquartered in Yangzhou.

A pivotal aspect of the Ambassador’s visit was his engagement with local leaders. It included Yangzhou’s Party Secretary Wang Jinjian and Jiangdu District’s Party Secretary Lili Zu.

Ambassador Haque conveyed his deep admiration for the impressive developmental achievements of both Yangzhou and Jiangdu.

Moreover, he underlined his eagerness to glean insights from China’s developmental model that has led to remarkable improvements in the lives of its citizens, from the grassroots level upwards.

Drawing parallels with the existing sister-province relationship between Jiangsu province and Punjab, Ambassador Haque emphasized the practicality and potential benefits of establishing a fruitful and outcome-driven sister-city relationship between Yangzhou and Pakistan.

Jiangsu province, where Yangzhou is located, holds a prominent position in China’s landscape. It boasts the second-highest GDP among all Chinese provinces. It is also the birthplace of esteemed leaders like former President Jiang Zemin.
