Foreign Secretary of Pakistan discussed Pakistan’s foreign policy at FPCI

Jakarta, 14 July 2023 (TDI): Dr. Asad Majeed Khan, the Foreign Secretary discussed the Foreign Policy of Pakistan at the Foreign Policy Community in Indonesia (FPCI), a think tank based in Jakarta.

Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, the Secretary-General of ASEAN along with the Foreign Ministers joined the meeting with the representatives of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).

The event marked Pakistan’s viable commitment to fostering regional and global cooperation and underscored the country’s strategic priorities.

During his address, the Foreign Secretary of Pakistan, Dr. Asad Majeed Khan discussed the foreign policy priorities incorporating economic growth and stability, and peaceful relations with regional counterparts.

Moreover, he highlighted the Jammu and Kashmir Dispute, developments in Afghanistan, and engagement with East Asia.

Particularly, he emphasized the importance of ties with the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the big powers including China and the United States.

Dr. Asad Majeed spoke about the multidimensional cooperation between Pakistan and Indonesia especially in political, economic, security, defense, tourism, and cultural realms.

Besides, the two nations closely considered the framework of multilateral forums including the UN and OIC.

Additionally, Dr. Asad M Khan commended the inordinate strategic potential and cooperation that both Pakistan and Indonesia share as the two largest Islamic nations.

Furthermore, the Foreign Secretary emphasized the urgent need to explore new avenues of collaboration in the maritime, technology, digitization, innovative economy, and intellectual exchanges between academia and think tanks in Pakistan and Indonesia.

On the other hand, Dr. Majeed also outlined Pakistan’s ‘Vision East Asia’ and the importance that Pakistan accords to its relations with ASEAN.

Pakistan, with its longstanding role as the oldest Sectoral Dialogue Partner, expressed its readiness to elevate its engagement with ASEAN to that of a Full Dialogue Partner.
