From 27–29 July, the UAE recorded its highest rainfall in the last 27 years. The rain led to floods in three of the biggest states of the United Arab Emirates, including Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah. Five Pakistani Nationals also have also died in the floods.
Pakistan and UAE diplomatic Relations
In 1971, Pakistan was the first to recognize the federation of seven Emirates. Pakistan-UAE completed 50 years of diplomatic relations last year.
The two parties are closely aligned in promoting regional peace, stability, and development. Amid the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, the United Arab Emirates ensured its full support to Pakistan to promote stability in Afghanistan.
Moreover, in January 2011, the UAE launched Pakistan Assistance Program to provide assistance in areas devastated by monsoon floods. This program has been proved vital as it provided construction of bridges, schools, etc., in many areas, including Swat.
Apart from this, they maintain strong trade relations. The UAE is Pakistan’s one of the largest trading partners. During COVID-19 Pandemic, both states ensured their full support during these difficult times. Pakistan also sent essential food supplies to UAE.
In May 2022, the Pakistani Prime Minister met with the President of the UAE, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The UAE President congratulated Shehbaz Sharif on his election as the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
The leaders agreed to strengthen bilateral trade and economic relations further.
