United Nations (TDI): Pakistan has been elected to serve a two-year term on the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) for 2025–2026, reaffirming its longstanding commitment to global peace and stability.
The Peacebuilding Commission, an intergovernmental advisory body, was established to assist conflict-affected countries in their peacebuilding and recovery efforts.
It works to enhance the international community’s capacity to address complex peace initiatives through a coordinated and comprehensive approach.
The Commission comprises 31 member states elected from countries that contribute troops and police to UN peacekeeping operations, donors supporting peacebuilding efforts, and representatives from the UN General Assembly, Security Council, and Economic and Social Council.
As a founding member of the Commission, Pakistan has consistently played a pivotal role in advancing the PBC’s objectives.
It is among the top five troop-contributing countries to UN peacekeeping missions, with thousands of personnel deployed in some of the most challenging conflict zones worldwide.
In a statement following the election, Pak Mission to the UN expressed gratitude for the international community’s confidence and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to the Commission’s work.
“Pakistan attaches great importance to the Peacebuilding Commission and remains dedicated to supporting its efforts to prevent conflicts, sustain peace, and promote sustainable development,” the statement said.
Pakistan’s election comes at a time when the global community faces complex challenges in conflict resolution and post-conflict recovery, including the effects of climate change, economic instability, and humanitarian crises.
As a member of the Commission, Pakistan aims to leverage its extensive experience in peacekeeping and its longstanding tradition of multilateral diplomacy to strengthen the PBC’s initiatives.
