Halifax, 26 August 2022 (TDI): Pakistan took part in the 65th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC). The 65th CPC lasted from 20th August till 26th of August. Consequently, Speaker of Pakistan’s National Assembly, Raja Pervez Ashraf headed a delegation to present Pakistan at the CPC.

Remarks at the Conference

During his address at the 65th CPC, Speaker Raja Pervez highlighted the issue of Kashmir and how so many Kashmiris have died at the hands of Indian atrocities. Moreover, he also raised concerns about immigration and visa problems for Pakistanis.

Additionally, Speaker Raja Pervez also called for the world to strengthen climate actions. He emphasized the effects, climate change is causing. In these regards, he highlighted the issue of ongoing floods in Pakistan too.

Sideline meetings with Canadian officials

The Speaker of the National Assembly met the Speaker of the Senate of Canada, George Furey, on CPC’s sidelines. The Senator of Canada expressed his pleasure in meeting the Speaker.


Moreover, he highlighted the celebration of 75 years of Pakistan and Canada’s bilateral relations on the occasion. Consequently, both sides affirmed

The Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada, Anthony Rota also met the Pakistani delegation in Halifax, Canada. Pakistan’s National Assembly Speaker congratulated Speaker Anthony on successfully hosting the 65th CPC.

Moreover, both sides agreed to strengthen parliamentary relations and expand cooperation across diverse fields.

The 65th CPC

The Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference is organized by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) annually. It aims at addressing global political issues and highlighting developments in the parliamentary system throughout the world.

The CPA is an international community of around 180 Commonwealth Parliaments and Legislatures working together to deepen the Commonwealth’s commitment to the highest standards of democratic governance.

This year, Canada hosted the annual flagship event. More than 500 Parliamentarians, parliamentary staff, and decision-makers from across the world attended the Conference. to address the critical issues faced by parliaments.

The 65th CPC was hosted by Anthony Rota, Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada. Moreover, many sideline meetings and conferences also commenced during the time period of the 65th CPC.
