Pakistan Army Chief met US Deputy Secretary of State

Rawalpindi, 11 October 2021 (TDI): The Chief of Army Staff, (COAS), General Qamar Jawed Bajwa met the US Deputy Sectary of State, Wendy Sherman. The US State Department No 2 was in Pakistan on a two-day official visit from 7 to 8 October.

This was the first visit by a senior American diplomat under the United States President Joe Biden administration.
Matters related to mutual interests, regional security and evolving situation in Afghanistan were discussed. Both dignitaries discussed collaboration for humanitarian assistance for Afghan people.
General Bajwa reiterated Pakistan’s commitment in bringing peace and stability in Afghanistan, and its support for an inclusive government. He also highlighted the significance of multidimensional relations between the two countries. This has been Pakistan’s continuous stance with regard to relations with the US.
Wendy Sherman appreciated Pakistan’s assistance in providing the successful evacuation operations. She also pledged to work with Pakistan for regional peace.

Wendy Sherman’s visit to Pakistan followed her visit to India where she had wide-ranging engagements from 6 to 7 October 2021.
