Islamabad, 1 May 2023 (TDI): Sajjad Haider Khan, Ambassador of Pakistan, and Bilal Hayee, the Country’s Envoy to Azerbaijan, attended celebrations memorializing Heydar Aliyev, Azerbaijan’s national leader, on the occasion of his centennial.
In Azerbaijan, Ambassador Bilal Hayee joined the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Ecology of Azerbaijan and friends from the diplomatic corps in a tree-planting event in memory of Heydar Aliyev.
The purpose of the celebration was to honor Heydar Aliyev’s legacy and his contributions to the growth of Azerbaijan. Diplomat Hayee also stressed the significance of environmental preservation, a shared objective between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

Meanwhile, in Belarus, Ambassador Sajjad Haider Khan attended a gala concert at the Belarusian Philharmonic hosted by the Azeri Embassy—Azerbaijani and Belarussian musicians performed during the evening.
Ambassador Khan expressed his excitement at having the opportunity to observe the two countries’ cultural interchange. He also emphasized Pakistan’s strong and brotherly association with Azerbaijan.

The festivities were part of various activities arranged by the Azerbaijani Embassy in multiple countries to commemorate Heydar Aliyev’s birth centennial. Former Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev was an esteemed leader. His impact on modern Azerbaijan and the region is still being felt today.
During his time in office, Heydar Aliyev worked to strengthen relations between Azerbaijan and Pakistan, particularly in commerce and defense. He grew ties with Pakistan as an essential strategic partner in the region. He described the coalitions between Pakistan and Azerbaijan as crucial and fraternal.
