Pakistan, UAE Discuss Visas and Managing Migration

Islamabad (TDI): During the second session of the Pakistan-UAE Joint Consular Committee (JCC), Foreign Ministry Representatives of Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates discussed visa process facilitation and migration management.

The meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, of Pakistan, yesterday and was  co-chaired by Additional Foreign Secretary (Middle East), Shehryar Akbar Khan and Assistant Undersecretary for Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, Faisal Eissa Lutfi.

In addition to acknowledging the valuable contributions of two million Pakistani nationals residing in the UAE, both sides discussed measures to further enhance coordination on consular matters.

On the current status of consular level coordination, both sides expressed satisfaction, while also reassuring each other of continued cooperation in the future, especially strengthening people-to-people ties.

The welfare of Pakistanis living and working in the UAE was also discussed at length, especially easing the visa regime, labor rights, and migration management.

An official statement of the Ministry noted, “​Recalling the upward trajectory of Pakistan-UAE relations, reinforced by the recent high level visits of Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on 27 February 2025 and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on 20-21 April 2025 to Pakistan, the Additional Foreign Secretary (Middle East) appreciated the UAE Government’s continued support for the Pakistani community, which serves as a strong bridge of friendship between the two countries.”

“He emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to further deepening people-to-people exchanges with the UAE and highlighted the importance of sustained dialogue on consular affairs,” it further read.

In a separate development, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar, spoke to his Emirati counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss the regional situation and matters of mutual concern.

He apprised the UAE deputy prime minister and foreign minister of Pakistan’s National Security Committee’s decisions in response to India’s unfounded allegations, inflammatory rhetoric, and unilateral measures.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed the significance of upholding regional stability, promoting dialogue, exercising restraint, and peaceful resolution of disputes.
