Pakistan Expresses Solidarity with Qatar as PM Exchanged Call with Emir Al Thani

Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan’s Prime Minister held a telephone conversation with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, reaffirming the country’s support for Doha in the wake of regional hostilities that continue in the aftermath of unprovoked joint attack on Iran by Israel and the United States on February 28.

During the call, the two leaders also exchanged Eid greetings and goodwill messages, in addition to urging for dialogue and de-escalation, as Pakistan has just recently made a formal offer to host US-Iran talks in Islamabad.

“We agreed on the urgent need for advancing peace efforts, encourage de-escalation, and promote dialogue to restore regional peace and stability,” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif wrote in a post on X.

He also conveyed condolences on the loss of lives since the conflict started, and Qatar came in the heat of the combat for being US’ closest Gulf ally.

Prime Minister Sharif reiterated Islamabad’s consistent position that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to resolving conflicts in the region. Both leaders emphasized the urgency of reducing tensions and preventing further deterioration of the security situation.

For his part, Sheikh Tamim appreciated Pakistan’s support and its proactive diplomatic engagement, acknowledging Islamabad’s efforts to promote peace and welcomed its stance advocating restraint and dialogue among all parties involved.

Pakistan and Qatar maintain strong bilateral relations, spanning energy cooperation, labor ties, and regional diplomacy. In recent years, Doha has also played a mediating role in several regional conflicts, positioning itself as a key diplomatic actor in the Gulf.

The two leaders agreed to remain in close contact in the coming days as the situation evolves, signaling continued coordination between Islamabad and Doha amid an increasingly volatile region.
