Pakistan-Russia Strengthen Partnership in 6th Round of Consultations

Islamabad (TDI): The sixth round of Pakistan-Russia Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) was held in Islamabad, on April 23, 2025.

Special Secretary, Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan, led the Pakistani delegation, while the Russian side was headed by the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Ambassador Andrey Rudenko.

The consultations provided a platform for an in-depth exchange of views on the entire spectrum of bilateral relations and regional as well as international issues of mutual interest.

Both sides expressed satisfaction over the positive momentum in Pakistan-Russia ties, underlining their shared interest in promoting peace, stability, and economic cooperation.

Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan welcomed the Russian delegation and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to fostering stronger ties with the Russian Federation.

He emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and collaboration in all areas of mutual benefit, including trade, investment, energy, education, security, and people-to-people contacts.

Ambassador Khan also acknowledged Russia’s constructive role in regional peace efforts and emphasized the need to enhance connectivity and cooperation under various regional frameworks.

Ambassador Rudenko, in his remarks, lauded the deepening relationship between the two countries and reaffirmed Russia’s interest in broadening its partnership with Pakistan. He appreciated Pakistan’s contributions to regional stability and its commitment to multilateralism.

Both sides agreed on the importance of maintaining high-level contacts and regular institutional engagements, including in multilateral forums.

The discussions also highlighted the potential for collaboration in energy, particularly oil and gas, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, information technology, and defense.

Both sides underscored the need to enhance parliamentary exchanges, cultural cooperation, and academic linkages to build greater mutual understanding and goodwill among their peoples.

The Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) mechanism between Pakistan and Russia has evolved into a key platform for structured diplomatic engagement.

Since its inception in the early 2000s, the BPC has facilitated regular dialogue on regional and global developments, economic cooperation, and strategic alignment.

The meeting concluded with a mutual reaffirmation of commitment to further deepen and diversify the Pakistan-Russia partnership. It was agreed that the next round of political consultations will be held in Moscow on mutually convenient dates.
