Pakistan, Qatar Pledge Continued Cooperation for Regional Stability

Islamabad (TDI): The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif, and the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, during a telephone conversation, pledged continuing cooperation for regional security and stability.

PM Shahbaz thanked Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani for Qatar’s solidarity and support in the context of the ongoing regional situation, and said that Qatar’s support reflects the deep-rooted brotherly relations between the two countries.

He also informed the Qatari Leader about the recent developments in South Asia and said that Pakistan has always condemned terrorism in all forms and made several sacrifices in its war against terror.

During the conversation, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif also highlighted India’s attempts to associate Pakistan with Pahalgam incident, without providing any proof. He also reiterated that Pakistan is open to assist in a credible, transparent, and neutral international investigation into the incident.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister expressed deep concern over India’s weaponization of the waters of the Indus Basin and said that it would be deemed unacceptable for Pakistan as water from the Indus Basin is a lifeline of around 240 million people of Pakistan.

While talking to the Amir of Qatar, Prime Minister of Pakistan emphasized on the hard-earned economic gains the country has achieved over the past one year and stated that Pakistan would gain no conceivable advantage by involving itself in any such incident at a time when the country was on its path to economic stability.

The Amir of Qatar appreciated the efforts of Pakistan in achieving peace and stability in South Asia, and expressed the desire of his country to work alongside Pakistan in ensuring the de-escalation of the current crisis.

On April 30, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar had issued a statement, expressing deep concern over the escalation between Pakistan and India, and called on both countries to exercise maximum restraint and resolve the issue through diplomatic channels.
