Pakistan’s First Lady, UAE Ambassador Hold Talks on Welfare, Economic Growth

Islamabad  (TDI): The First Lady of Pakistan, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, met the United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Pakistan, Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Alzaabi, at Bilawal House on Monday and talked about enhancing collaboration between the two countries in the field of public welfare, economic prosperity, and cultural exchange.

Dr. Bakheet Ateeq Al Remeithi, UAE Consul General of Karachi, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Sindh Minister, and Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Mayor of Karachi, were also present at the meeting.

They had a discussion on exploring opportunities for cooperation in the areas of social welfare, infrastructure development, and joint collaboration women’s empowerment.

The First Lady appreciated the United Arab Emirates’s support for  Pakistan’s development programs. She also talked about the long history of health, education, and relief projects sponsored by Emirati aid across various provinces.

Talking about the long-standing friendship between both countries, Ambassador Alzaabi expressed the UAE’s desire to strengthen cooperation in humanitarian as well as economic areas. 

Pakistan and the UAE established their diplomatic relations in 1971, and continued a multidimensional partnership since then. Over the past few years, UAE has invested in projects related to energy, logistics, aviation, and port infrastructure.

UAE has also made significant contributions towards several infrastructure and humanitarian projects in Pakistan.

Through UAE Pakistan Assistance Program (UAE PAP), UAE launched a wide range of projects related to healthcare, education, water provision, and road development in the more remote areas of Pakistan, such as South Waziristan, Khyber, and Balochistan.

The connection is also defined by the huge diaspora element, with over 1.6 million Pakistanis settled and working in the UAE. The economic cooperation spans several sectors, such as ports, energy, and aviation, while regular diplomatic interactions continue at various levels.
