Abu Dhabi (TDI): At the opening Ceremony of the North London Collegiate School Dubai Model United Nations (NLCSDMUN) Conference, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UAE Faisal Niaz Tirmizi had a simple message for students, “The world needs young diplomats, and it needs them now.”
The event, brought together students from across the region for a weekend of simulated diplomacy and debate. Welcoming the ambassador were school head Jonathan Locke and the student-led organizing team, including Director General Fatima Tariq, who extended the official invitation.
In his keynote speech, Ambassador Tirmizi said, “Global problems don’t stop at borders. Whether it’s climate, conflict or public health, we have to face them together.”
He stressed that the world’s toughest disputes, even wars, have always found resolution through negotiations, not violence.

Pakistan, he noted, has long participated in international peace efforts, especially through the United Nations. He also spoke about the growing climate crisis and how Pakistan, with its glaciers melting and floods intensifying, is among the countries facing the most risk.
Turning to the UAE, Tirmizi described it as a rare success story in peaceful coexistence. “It’s not often you see over 190 nationalities living side by side, and doing so in peace. There’s a lot the world can learn from that,” he said.

He encouraged students to think seriously about a future in international affairs, not just in politics, but through any field that brings people and ideas together.
After the speech, he also engaged in the Q&A session. The discussion ranged from Pakistan’s role on the global stage to practical advice on careers in diplomacy.
