Abu Dhabi (TDI): Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Faisal Niaz Tirmizi said on Wednesday that the government was pursuing an agenda aimed at making tangible progress towards achieving economic growth and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He was addressing a reception hosted by the Embassy in the UAE to commemorate the National Day of Pakistan.
The ambassador recalled the importance of the Pakistan resolution and highlighted the arduous struggle in tackling the growing needs of a nascent state, and later towards achieving socio-economic growth.
He also underscored vast opportunities in Pakistan that remained pivotal in promoting socio-economic growth in the country which included a healthy youth bulge; increasing women participation in public life; potential of agriculture; rich socio-cultural heritage; tourism potential; and the rapidly developing IT Sector.
UAE’s Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence Sheikh Nahayan bin Mabarak Al Nahyan attended the ceremony as the chief guest.
UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh and senior officials, members of the diplomatic corps, Emirati citizens and the Pakistani community also participated in the ceremony.

Pakistani artists played the national anthems of both countries on traditional instruments.
Pakistan’s envoy reaffirmed Islamabad’s position on the resolution of the Palestinian issue and the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.
He commended the impressive economic development of the UAE in the last five decades and paid rich tribute to the visionary leadership of late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan which was proudly continued by the current President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

He highlighted the strengthening Pakistan-UAE political and economic relations, demonstrated through regular high-level visits, well-established institutions and the presence of 1.7 million Pakistani diaspora.
As a mark of tribute to the founding father of the UAE, the embassy also launched a book on the life and works of Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan titled “Sheikh Zayed Maimaar-e-Watan”, written by a prominent Pakistani author Khan Zaman Suroor.
