Brussels (TDI): Pakistan’s Ambassador to the European Union, Rahim Hayat Qureshi, on Friday formally presented his Letters of Credence to European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
The ceremonies took place in Brussels in a dignified setting, according to a statement shared by the Pakistan Embassy in Belgium on its official X account.
Pakistan and the European Union enjoy longstanding relations anchored in political dialogue, trade, development cooperation, and shared commitment to multilateralism.
The two sides are currently working under the EU–Pakistan Strategic Engagement Plan, which provides a comprehensive framework for advancing cooperation.
A cornerstone of the partnership has been the Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+), through which Pakistan has gained preferential access to the European market.
This facility has significantly boosted Pakistan’s exports, while also encouraging progress on governance and human rights commitments.
In recent years, the EU has also partnered with Pakistan on climate resilience, green energy transition, and disaster management.
