Enhancing Pak-China Collaboration Ahead of SCO Summit

Islamabad (TDI): Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal chaired a strategic review meeting of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects in preparation for the upcoming mid-October Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit.

Senior Officials, including Secretaries and Additional Secretaries from relevant ministries, were present to discuss the current development and set the stage for enhanced bilateral cooperation with China.

CPEC Projects Reviewed Ahead of Chinese Premier’s Visit

The meeting focused on assessing the progress of various CPEC initiatives, with special attention on critical sectors like infrastructure, road connectivity, energy, agriculture, and information technology.

The discussion underscored the importance of creating a comprehensive action plan to drive economic development and foster long-term cooperation between Pakistan and China.

The review was particularly timely in light of the expected visit of the Chinese Premier for the SCO Summit. This makes it an important moment to enhance ties and achieve tangible outcomes.

Minister Iqbal Calls for Enhanced Cross-Sectoral Collaboration

Minister Ahsan Iqbal stressed the vital role of cross-sector collaboration in unlocking CPEC’s full potential. He urged ministries to finalize their proposals and action plans before the Summit.

However, it focuses on advancing business-to-business (B2B) investments and attracting foreign capital.

The Minister highlighted the need for stronger coordination to secure impactful deliverables during the upcoming high-level engagement with China. That ensures Pakistan remains a favorable investment destination.

Commitment to Priority Sectors

Ahsan Iqbal also mentioned the urgency of progress in key sectors such as education, healthcare, industrial cooperation, water resources, and artificial intelligence. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s stance on deepening bilateral commitment in these areas.

Moreover, such commitments signal a shared vision of modernization and growth. The Minister also reflected on the importance of Chinese investment in stabilizing Pakistan’s economy since 2013.

He acknowledged the significance of integrating Pakistan into global value chains through these initiatives.
